How would I go about creating a script and how much of a performance should be ad-libbing and improvisation?

Though there are numerous topics already on this type of thing. Your best bet is to pick up some books on the subject.
Though, there are many ways one may go about creating a routine and script.

Basically, he's saying that, if you don't know or understand how to script a show (and are still looking for advice on routine stucture, e.g., what makes a good closer), you should not be asking about how to market yourself and what to charge for your first show, as you are nowhere near ready to enter the market, particularly for children's magic.

Scripting and routine structure are among my strongest skills as a performer; however, I didn't learn to do these things by reading books about scripting magic; my knowledge and abilities in these areas came from skillsets I developed doing other things besides magic. Although I have heard that there are some out there, I have never seen or read a book specifically on scripting magic. There are relevant resources I can recommend, but perhaps someone else can point you to any books specifically about scripting magic.

Look at the Tarbell series, Magic and Showmanship: A Handbook for Conjurers, Showmanship for Magicians, Strong Magic, Maximum Entertainment, et al.
