I've been performing for quite a few years now, and have never bothered about doing restaurant work. Anyway, I decided to give it a shot, and bought Live At The Jailhouse. Man, that set has so much valuable info! I got the first restaurant I went for, and I've been booked for two nights a week.

It's going to be very different from what I'm used to, but it should be fun once I settle in.

Well done for getting yourself out there.Are you thinking of pursuing magic 'full-time' professionally? I am just asking because in that setting, if you leave a business card at every table, you will be surprised at the amount of gigs you can get. And just out of curiousity, how are you paid? by the hour? The night? tips?

Yes, I am intending to make it full time, so I'll make sure I use a lot of business cards.

We don't tip in this country, so everything is paid by the hour. I prefer it that way, as you know how much you'll make each night.

AHH, That makes sense for some reason Australians do tip, but New Zealand is notorious for not tipping. I don't understand why the difference but know that it does exist. Buskers usually go to Australia to work but New Zealand to trelax.

I was in the US for 5 weeks at Christmas. Love the place, but on the occasion that you get bad service, you feel you should only give a small tip or even no tip at all. Then the worker gives you such such a negative response. I don't feel comfortable with the tipping system in situations like that.

I have seen some servers that were so bad that if you left a tip, you were really stupid, then if you don't leave a tip they think you are stupid. So I left 3 pennies as a tip. That REALLY urinates them off, but they do get the message.

Can't wait untill I move (shortly) and can go to a town a bit bigger than my one, because in my town none of the resturantes are busy enough.

Thanks Pauldela. It's going really well. On my first night, I had tables calling me back 5 or 6 times. Since then, I've had some really good feedback from the management. It's a lot of fun, but tiring by the end of the night.
