Hey everyone most of you don't remember me Im sure, but i use to be pretty active on these forums. I was in the magic castle as a junior member then I had a falling out with magic for about a year don't ask me why I guess I just got tiered of it. Well I was still getting a lot of requests to preform by friends and I recently started practicing again. I have don't a lot of walk around events back in my castle days when I was doing cocktail party stuff ect. I have however never given restaurant magic try. Routine wise, I imagined it would be very similar to walk around magic at parties. However I wanted to get some advice from the seasoned pros here before I assumed to much and got to practicing new routines and realized after I had them down that table hopping was completely different than walk around at cocktail parties. So I guess my basic questions are:
-I usually had about 4 routines and 3 tricks each that flow nicely when doing a paid walk around even is restaurant magic about the same or am I way off?
-Do I assume that I wont have a table to work off of? because it seems rude to litter a table that people are eating at with magic supplies.
-What basic non magic supplies do I bring? Sharpie, business cards, ect?
-What book or Dvd recommendations do you have, I have heard a lot about something called, "jail house."?
-Generally are do you ask for a salary plus tips, or is it one or the other from the restaurant owner?

Thanks a ton for the advice guys!

This is what falling blood recomends, I give him credit for this list:
* The Complete Guide to Restaurant and Walkaround Magic, by Kirk Charles
* Restaurant Workers Handbook, by Jim Pace & Jerry MacGregor
* Magic Menu: The First Five Years (in addition to any other issues you can get your hands on.), edited by Jim Sisti
* Real World Magic, by Jerry Mac Gregor
* Making A Living Performing At Restaurants & Hotels by Carl Andrews
* Video: Making A Living Performing Close-up Magic by Carl Andrews
* Video: The Strolling Magican, by Carl Andrews
* David Stone's Real Secrets of Magic
* Live at the Jailhouse
* Anything from Eugene Burger on the subject
* Anything from Paul Green on the subject

Get them all and study them.
Once you have, you will have the answer to pretty much all your questions.

Also Sankey's Real Work on Restaurant and Bars is great.

Live at the Jailhouse is next up on my wishlist. Great DVD I heard from most, and read all the reviews on it. Although I am not a fan of performance only clips. If I wanted performance only I would just not watch any explanations. Performance only effects only makes what is taught seem inferior.

The Magic Menu is the bible of restaurant magic, love it.

Ha! That is easy for you to say, that is a good chunk of change. Might take years to get them all, and even years more to go through all of that.
