Wow, hope I never run into any of that. Luckily I am the only magician within 70 miles.

Chris handled it well, as he typically does. However, I would have gone to the owner as soon as the situation came up (ie when he was told that another magician was coming).

Secondly, as someone mentioned on the cafe, the restaurant should have mentioned that they have a magician already/or that other magicians are not allowed.

A very similar thing once happened to me:
A local mini-golf place hires entertainers for kid parties and Cub Scout meetings all the time. I talked to the owner and did a show for him and the other employees, and they made me their "house magician" (they call it their "Entertainer on call: Magician"). A party came that had hired another magician and one of the employees called my cell phone as soon as they heard. The owner talked to the family and asked the guy to leave, he then called me to see how soon I could be there (15 minutes). After the show, the mom apologized for bringing another magician - they where told about me, but didn't realize that my position there was "exclusive".

I think he did the right thing. It's tough though, should he have handed out the business cards.

Yes. It's his turf as I said.

The other guy's "persona" is a rip off of the Amazing Johnathan - it can only be assumed that he'd be insulting and reveal methods for a cheap clap.

If he had a problem with Chris giving out a card, he needs to get over himself.

I read the whole thread top to bottom. It was interesting. I think a lot of the arguments took the original posters comments out of context and argued about poaching. I read the whole thing as Lyle (original poster) stating that the next time the lady came to the restaurant she wouldn't have to hire a magician because they had one on specific dates. He wasn't trying to steal the client in my opinion. Though I can see where everyone could see that was the case.

Yeah how is he stealing the client when the client already bought the show? He just gave them his card out of habit, as he should in the restaurant he is working at. It is the client's choice who they call next time, not the magician's.

Every word. It was like a soap opera unfolding. From Santa getting to a name calling match every word I swear to you took like an hour!

He described him as a "poor rip-off of the Amazing Johnathan" - which if you think about it is somewhat redundant.

The Amazing Johnathan's shows are no different, so it's really not that surprising.

I've always thought he was a jerk.

Once in a while he does something funny: When talking about misdirection during a spongeball routine, he had 5 half naked women circle him on stage and dance - then he asked which hand the spounge balls where in.

Most of his shows are just stupid though.
