In a way, Vernon was instrumental in shaping what is modern magic. His ideas about minimalism in magic have become so part of our art, we barely think of an effect he has not influenced if not directly, than indirectly...by influencing the people that then shaped it. Magic should be simple. It should be possible to describe an effect in one sentence. The less the fingers move the more magical it appears. He influenced Ammar, he Influences Roth, etc...

As to Footage of Vernon He appeared on Mark Wilson's TV show once and did Cups and Balls, and Linking Rings I believe. And Penguin carries it. Not sure where else footage of him may be found.

Vernon did not invent the DL - it dates back to the 1600's, same as the pass. Well, mention of it dates back that far anyway. I don't remember the name of the manuscript, but Lee Asher mentions it in his lecture.

It was invented by Richard Neve. It was published in his book The Merry companion. (1716) He was also the 1st to publish the ambitious card plot. It was under the name "seem to change the top card for another".

I thought a DL was first described in print in The Discoverie of Witchcraft.

Ugh... Jiff is too sweet and creamy for my palatte I preferr Skippy, Not the one with peanuts though..Just " creamy" the one with peanuts destroys my bread... and that " Peanut Butter and Jelly" in one jar... after a while the inside looks kinda gross...

I have come across 2 places where it says the dl was invented by Richard Neeve. Lee Asher dvb and dominatricks. Where did you hear it was in "Discoverie of Witchcraft".

I think it's from the fact that almost every basic sleight is said to have been mentioned in the thing...

I also read the 'fact' in a preface of one of the magic books available at the Learned Pig Project. I will dig though there again to see if I can find it. If not, lets go with what people have just said
