Sorry 'bout that, but I thought that other Topic had run it's course, and I wanted to start getting some fresh ideas. :)

I was thinking in the shower today, that you have a contest where you write down a # 1 to 10. then you wait for 10 people to respond and end it. Whoever gets it right wins something cheap. Probably not that great of an idea, but maybe you could make something out of it.

A contest to see who can come up with the most creative and challenging contest.

Think about it. Dozens of people giving you enough ideas for the next twenty contests or so! Plus it challenges people to think outside the box.

The purpose of the contsts is to get people participating a little bit more correct?

essay contest: The best magician you've never heard of!
Essay Contest: The life and times of Dai vernon
Trick review contest

After these contests are over you could use the winning essay to make a contest based on the best comments towards said essay.

Video contests

Best effect in a certain category, in general. Best magic related video that doesn't have an effect. Video reviews. The world is your burrito close it up and give it gas.

I know that this is back to the "Guess the Sankey Trick" thing, but I think that if you want them to last longer, you could get someone to guess, say a Vernon trick that you give guidlines of, and not tell who won until it is over. The people who guess the same thing then have thier names put into a hat.

I know, stupid idea.

I did like the idea of the essay contest, but you wouldn't get many entries. There are a lot of people who don't have time to write essays.

If you wanted the question ones to last longer, don't make them all from one site... Pick up a lot of issues of Genii and take Max Maven's Monthly Inquisition and take various ones.

Maybe you could write something that would become apparent months from then on the forums and come up with a contest in a few months that has to do with it.

Or, instead of the number game, make people guess a card and a suit!

I don't know. I am just shooting out ideas.

I think so far the poem one was the most fun.

Maybe you could copy a columb from a Genii magazine and make people guess which issue it was?

or you could do an essay with multiple judges.
Possible topics:
-How magic has changed your life
- Funniest magic moment
- Why you are a magician

Have the mods(and you) be jedges on certain criteria(on a scale of 1-10) and whoever gets the best combined score will win. Or just narrow it down to the top 3 and have a week poll for people to vote.

Just an idea

This one is a great idea, I really like this one ... too bad you don't have enough posts to participate in it though. :? :)

As for the Essays, I don't think I would get that many entries ... apparently most people don't want the challenge of having to write anything lengthly  ... that was pretty evident in my 'Poem' Contest. I only had about 6 qualifying entries in that !

I was thinkin' about having a Contest where I post a certain amount of Images from Sci-Fi Movies, and have the Titles of the Movies and the years of release as answers ... how does that sound ... gimme some input on that.

Who art thou, Frijid Pink?
Why dost thou wage contests?
How does one participate in said contests?
What prizes are given in those contests?
How long do those contests last?
With what frequency do you wage these contests?

Inquiring minds wanna know.

Thanx.

I like the sci-fi movie idea, google will be of very little help there.

Not to throw it off topic, but I think penguin should reward good posters somehow, so maybe you could find a way to host a contest based on post quality.

Why dost thou wage contests? ... Something to do in my old age ... I'm just a generous giving sharing kinda guy :) ... it's fun for me, and I hope I bring a little fun to the Forums with 'em.
How does one participate in said contests? ... Read the Rules of one and you'll see.
What prizes are given in those contests? ... Ditto.
How long do those contests last? ... Again, read one of the Contests.
With what frequency do you wage these contests? ... I try to run 1 a week.

Inquiring minds wanna know.

Thanx.
