I personally do not like the "without going over" rule. I knew it would cause confusion eventually. As far as I am concerned closest to the number should win, period. :)

Yes, but closest which way ? ...
... let's assume the written down number is 150 ... what if 1 person guesses 147 and another guesses 153, both guesses are equal numbers (3) apart ... what happens then ? You can't have it both ways 'cause there's always the chance you might have 2 Winners !
It has to be 'closest without going over' or 'closest by going over' ... one or the other.

How often has that actually happened though so far? You could handle it one of two ways. If two numbers are the same distance apart, then the "not going over" rule could go into effect. You could also have a "draw off" where only the two constants pick another number. Having the not going over rule also tends to force many to want to pick lower numbers. You won't see many guessing 299.

I don't see it as a problem. Think of it like Blackjack. You bust when you go over 21. Same here. I can't imagine anyone (other than Frijid? ) messing it up.

I just think it is pointless unless two people actually select two numbers that are the same distance apart. Then the rule could go into effect. It would be kinda silly to see someone win with say the number 45, the correct number is 100, and the person who guess 101 loses.

Putting the rule into effect after the guesses have been made wouldn't be fair !

You said it yourself, "I just think it is pointless unless two people actually select two numbers that are the same distance apart."
(So you admit it has a point.) :)

Since there is always the chance of 2 people getting their guessed numbers an equal amount less or more, that's why I have it set up that way.

Would you rather I had it the other way ? ... whoever comes closest but goes over ? :)
