Frijid chooses 3 tricks from Royal Road to Card Magic. He gives us hints like a sentence or two quote from the effect or sleight description. We have to tell him the 3 sleights/effects.

Not only will it provide a challenge, but encourage magicians to find new things and learn about the effects you picked.

Best explanation contest:

we are given a word or several words to define that are magic related. We could be rated on being clear, concise and accurate.

Best post contest.

Have everyone search for their most informative post that is greater than 2 weeks old. (Essays wouldn't count) they also need to provide a copy of the link so there can be a check for context!

Or

we could scour the forums for posts in April/May that were the most helpful. Copy and paste the post and a link to the thread and then BRIEFLY discuss why that post was helpful and what that person got out of it. So it could be anybodies post but the contest participant would be judged on why that post was helpful and what they got out of it and so on.

Again trying to think of ways to stimulate discussion on the forums. Off-topic discussions should not be included in the above contests. Magic related only.... This way maybe we don't have to follow the post count rule maybe we do....

I have the book, but not everyone does....

I have over 300 posts, but not everyone does. Not everybody will be able to participate in every contest; that's just the way it is.

How about submitting funny and/or creative means or excuses you come up with to justify the money you spend on magic-related itemst to your wife/girlfriend/boyfriend/husband/significant other!

(I'm not really wanting to enter, let alone win such a contest; I'm just running out of ideas that don't result in my wife making a trip to a clothing store or to a crafts store and spending what I spent - plus 25%! I need some help!)

Why not make the next contest winner just a random selection. Post the dates it is in effect, everyone who wants in must post once to be included, and then pick a name out of a hat??

You should look up weird stuff like snapple facts and than ask questions about them

But, the 300 posts is something to show you participate on the forums. Having the book means you have had to spent money on something, and not everyone wants to do that.

For the next contest I think it would be fun to have everybody post why they deserve to get whatever effect you are giving away.

For me, I want to get Impossible Matrix because I do a neat 3 fly routine and this is a great way to bring out a deck of cards, do a quick matrix effect and go from there. I think I would definitely put it to good use and since it is sold out here at Penguin. I would be glad to unload from you frigid_pink!

Entry:
every take a picture of themselves in during a performance. Whoever posts the picture that has the biggest impact wins. So say, most magical moment, funniest expression, a WOW expression, or anything else. You could judge on any of those, or just simply the best non-photoshopped picture.

then first one to get it right wins w/e the prize is.

for those that don't know what cryptography riddles are its when you have something like:

"bqntta kb qtta"

and usually they give you one clue like

t = o

so you replace all t's with o's

and you get

"bqnooa kb qooa"

and you just keep replacing letters til you get the answer.

so in this case,
b=s
q=c
n=h
a=l

and you get the answer

"school is cool"
