Hey, I'm going to blockbuster and I don't want to take forever looking for a good horror movie, does anyone have a reccomendation of your favorite horror movie? I've seen most of the old ones,1408, vacany, and the FD series and tons more that I can't remember. I'm not really looking for a slasher becuase I know I'm getting "The Strangers."

Any reccomendations would be appreciated. When my question is answered, i'll turn this thread into a "Favorite horror movie thread" or sumthin.

A Clockwork Orange, The Elephant man, Silent Hill (Kinda a slasher), The Host (Watch with subtitles), Shaun of the Dead (or any zombie movie really. Those are the ones I can think of right now. Try IMDB, and go to the Horror section.

If you don't mind a slasher film, the SAW movies are fantastic lol. There was this movie I think was called a haunting on molly hill or something by sherry something. If you can find it you won't be sorry. It isn;t a physical scary movie but the things that happen and the setting makes it scary.

Clockwork Orange is not a horror/scary movie....
One of my favorite scary films is this http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0437857/ it's basicaly a "mockumentary" on slasher films.
Also The Silence of the Lambs great horror film.

Well, i've been researching for the past hour or so ( ) and I have a list here of all the horror flicks i'd like to see (mnore to come.)

Shaun of the Dead
The Strangers
Land of The dead
Poltergeist (saw it before, don't remember it)
Dawn of the dead
The Exorcist (why haven't I seen this?)
The Shining
Slither
The Descent
The Devils Rejects
The orphanage
Dead Silence (just for fun)
The omen (1976)
Blair witch project (heard mixed reviews, decided I can't go on if I don't see this.)
BUG
Dead End
Dead Birds
Thirteen Ghosts
Dead and Breaskfast
Rogue
Dark Water
The host

Tonight i might pick up- The Strangers and Shaun of The Dead or Land of the Dead. Possibly Dead Birds or The Descent could make it too. NTM The Exorcist

To Respond-
 seen saw 1-4
 Saw Silent hill & Clockwork orange - both very good
 Saw Silence of the Lambs and LOVED it

I also have to reccomend "Cabin Fever" to ANY horror fan becuase its funny and very cool, not very scary, yet disgusting and innovative.

Shaun of the dead is absolutely hilarious. The exorcist is also a great movie. Sean of the dead is much less a horror movie than a comedy but its scary in a few parts.

The shining is a great movie but not all hat scary.

Slither was meh imo.

Blair witch project is a really good movie but it never really pays off, and if you don't pay attention the ending will confuse you.

Those are the ones I remember seeing, good luck.

from that list, these i recommend. Blair Witch Project will be a hit or miss depending on how you feel about the camera work. The exorcist is just scary.. I havent seen the stranger, but I think people in a suit and a mask are pretty messed up.

[Rec] is a pretty good film.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1038988/

It's Spanish, so you may have to watch it subtitled.

It was remade (badly, most people seem to say) as 'Quarantine'.

Just my opinions:

The Strangers was blah.

Shaun of the Dead is fine, but it is not really scary horror. More like comedy horror.

Land of the Dead is good, as are many of George A. Romero's other zombie movies. You might want to watch them in order, starting with his original 70s movies. Or maybe watch the new ones and the remakes, then go back and compare them to the originals. Diary of the Dead follows Land of the Dead, and I liked it as well.

The Descent has some pretty scary scenes.

I don't recall if anyone here already mentioned them, but the 28 Days and 28 Weeks Later movies are very good.

A movie you didn't mention is Dog Soldiers which is sort of different, and not bad.

Another is Doomsday which is a mix of many genres and borrows from many movies (28 Days Later, Mad Max, Escape from New York), but I thought it was entertaining and great fun.

I can tell you horror movies, not necessarily all of them are "scary" movies.

The Thing

Them

Jacobs Ladder

28 days later

night of the living dead remake

amityville horror (i think i personally liked the one without the big named star actors)

The shining

Shaun of the dead is a comedy. It's a spoof of Dawn of the dead which is a scary movie about zombies.
