Do/did they have any. There is a shortage of silver occurring.

Some coins may look dirty while still being sold pricey.
Coin collectors do not condone the cleaning of coins and that cleaning them will wear them down and reduce their value. Know that you can feel free to clean your coins and make them nice and shiny with various silver cleaning methods.
Ask a dealer if they have any "cull" coins, obviously different from culling in magic. These coins will be offered for less $ than others.
Also ask to see any bullion rounds. They may have some with a design you fancy.

Cull coins are the heavily worn junk coins worth very little to collectors. They're "culled" (sorted and removed) from the collections and usually sold off for the silver content.

Oh, then why would we want those? Magicians should have nice looking coins to look professional. How good would it look if a magician walked in with 3 pieces of [edited] metal in his hand? Not very good IMO. Just spend the money and get the good stuff, like Elliot Spitzer (if you live in N.Y., you'll get that )

They're perfect for things like "Three Fly" where you need what dealers call culls and we call "soft coins."

Soft coins would be culled from a set? Cull coins, to me, sounded like coins that had their face completely worn off and were discolored and everything. In that case then, culled Morgan Dollars would be a good choice for 3 Fly from a distance, and possibly culled Barber Halves for close- up 3 Fly.

Okay, but I still don't think that cull coins would be the right choice. It seems to me that there is a slight difference between cull coins and soft coins though. It seems to me that, by definition, a soft coin is usually a cull coin, but a cull coin wouldn't always be suitable for a soft coin. Cull coins are coins that either are discolored, bent, worn, or have holes in them, etc. This definition wouldn't really be suitable for coin magic. Go with cull coins maybe, buy a higher end cull coin.

A little advice: when you buy a set of coins, with or without a gimmick: buy it brandnew and soften them yourself so you can exactly decide how old or soft you want them!
