Who or what inspired you to start doing card magic?

For me it was just a simple beginner set that most people get at some point, then David Blaine inspired me to carry on. Now Blaine irritates me and it's Jamy Ian Swiss all the way.

Nothing inspired me to start doing card magic! ...
... but my first inspiration and interest in magic in general was when at a very young age (5 or 6 maybe), my Uncle made a coin disappear and reappear plucked from behind my ear ... from that moment on I was hooked on magic. I later learned all it was was the French Drop that made that marvelous magic happen. To make a long story short my interest in magic has now spanned to somewhere in the neighbood of 57 years.

I always loved magic but never thought I could learn it, it seemed almost like a fantasy because I only saw in on TV (I grew up in the Himalayas, no magic shops)

I saw a video on a video site of Oz Pearlman (didn't know of him at the time) performing the tenkai vanish and also taught it. then I learned this n' that from youtube and then started buying from penguin. I think the Biddle trick really sparked it off, I slowly began to realize an almost endless amount of possibilities with 52 pieces of cardboard! then found out about Juan Tamariz, Derren Brown, buck twins, Ben Earl, Daniel Madison, Ed Marlo, Jean Hugard to name just a few...

Shawn Farquar's shape of my heart routine. I saw it performed live about 18 months ago and haven't looked back.
Derren Brown also is the reason I'm into mentalism, I love his shows.

I first was inspired by a kid in my history class who was an excellent magician and I saw him muscle passing a coin which got me into coin magic. However David Stone is probably my biggest influence

I'm a "bit' older....So The T.V. Magic Cards comercials (Svengali Deck) these commercials were hosted by Marshall Brodine

To follow he also sold magic sets...in the same manner...you could say they were the 1st "infomercials"

Some Marshall Brodine trivia...he also played Wizzo on the Bozo show.

I also rented and re-rented "The Amature Magicians Handbook" form my local library.

Doug Henning also inspired me to be a magician.

I've been inspired by so many people, it would be somewhat unfair to pin-point exactly who I should choose. But if I had to directly pick my foremost inspirations, I'd have to go for: Derren Brown, Robert Moreland, Bébel, Dan & Dave Buck, and Syd Segal.

All of these people have in their own right inspired what and how I perform with a pack of cards – to me, they are all living legends. :)

Warm regards,
Jordan

Wow KC

The amatuer magicians handbook!! Forgot that was on my shelf. It's nice to see someone else remembers Doug Henning! He was the COOLEST!! I guess that means we are old guys eh?

I would have to say that my Dad inspired me to do magic. He showed me this one card trick when i was 5, (where you glimpse the card above their chosen card) and I was hooked. When I was young I wondered why everybody else wasn't as interested in magic as I was . :)

3 years ago a friend of mine sent me an email.
The subject line was simply "Mate, you've GOTTA watch this!", and it was a link of Cyril Takayama doing his 'coin/salt shaker through glass table' trick.

I've been doing magic ever since :)

David Blaine was the one who got me started in magic then I lost interest in the art about two years ago. I would watch magic videos on youtube off and off. Then one day I came across a video of Daniel Garcia and decided I wanted to go back to magic because it was so amazing. I just started practicing again about four months ago and people have been telling me I am really good. I gonna keep practicing and see where that leads me. Hopefully I won't lose interest in it again because I really like performing for people. So I'll have to see what happens.
