It occurred to me today what a wonderful little force this is with regards to mentalism. As a card magician I would never make use of this force, it's not fitting to my performance style in card magic and I know many more direct forces which I would prefer to use.

But for mentalism I think it's a winner. Of course there are mentalists who would never touch a deck of cards but consider this for a moment. You can offer the deck to be shuffled at the start of your act and have the cut made after a glimps which requires only a few seconds handling on your part. Once the cross cut has been made you explain "we'll come back to this later" and go into a routine which does not use cards. Perform several mind reading feats to secure in the minds of your audience that you're the genuine article, by this time any scepticism surrounding the deck will likely have vanished.
Now return the deck, never touching it, and demonstrate what is to be done. Turn your back while they note the card and bam you can reveal it any way you see fit. I think performed right the audience will believe you never handled the cards and it will be as genuine in their minds as any other mind reading stunt you've done during that set.

If you want a prediction just don't have the deck shuffled or use a pocket index. Reading the spectators mind requires dressing as you already have the information so you've several possibilities.

I don't use this much, although I have used to to GREAT success in the past.

It's a perfect example of a trick, witch if you use the right presentation it can come of very strong. I don't perform this as their are much stronger effects i can achive with just a deck of cards.

Infact ive acctually taught this to a few lay people... (bash me all you want)

I have better things to do than bash you over this when I learnt it myself for the first time from a website teaching magic for free.

I'm a fond believer of having simple mehods of acquiring information around which you can build strong presentations. Of corse I'm aware of there being better affects out there it just occured to me that put in the right context this will come off as very honest and fair in the minds of your spectators. Just wanted to share my little brainwave is all :D
