What do you do about someone who knows magic, but doesn't do it. They just reveal what the magician is doing :(. I know someone who always seems to be around when I do tricks and he will walk everyone through the sleights Im doing :( (Im a card guy :D). For example. "Hes not REALLY shuffling! Now the card is on top. Come on! show me the top card!" I DL to get out of it "HA! HE JUST ______!''. Seriously, what do I do about this guy?

Learn some Greg Wilson or better yet, some old stuff. No one knows how that old, self working stuff is done!

Put it on his hands...
As soon as he tells you how a trick is done either fool him, or give the cards to him and say something like: "Well since you know so much about it, impress us houdini..."

I hate guys like this, and what I usually do is ask him forward, compliment him for his knowledge, and ask him to pick a card. After he places it back he will ask if he could shuffle it... (Probably) Let him do it, get the cards back and ask him which card he was thinking of.
Then tap at the deck and say: "Well not only did I brought your card up to the top of the deck, but it magically changed into [Card you're holding], now explain how I do that houdini"
They'll shut up, everybody laughs at him, and you tell him to move on.

You're putting the spotlight on a guy who's already desperate for attention, and wanting to make you look stupid. I know that sounds great in your head, but this rarely works out in real life unless it's a small kid.

Hey man,

If this guy is really wrecking your art I say throw a private show and don't invite the guy.

If he happens to walk up when you are performing next time, I'd tell him politely that the tricks aren't for him and ask him to leave. If he doesn't, I'd probably get NOT so polite. Whatever you do, stop performing until he leaves. You need the people that want to see you keep going to help you get rid of the guy.

If they ask you about it when he leaves just tell them that he has been busting your chops and that you don't see eye to eye. Then keep on performing.

Since I'm 6'7" and weigh 250 lbs I'd probably take the maloney approach if I had too. But then again, that could get you into a different kind of trouble.

Good luck man, don't let the guy stop you.

Ted

The answer is very simple. Don't perform for him. If he comes around while you're performing, tell your audience you can't continue because he is a disturbance. That will get the audience on his case, and he will either shut up, or leave. Use your audience. And who knows, maybe one of them will punch him in the face, and you don't get into trouble.

I know what you mean...
It works for me though, had it several times.
It's the way how you do it that makes him look foolish or not.
I instantly handed out my deck of cards to him saying that line.
But it may not work for everyone, and it most certainly won't work ON everyone
