I recently got some Sam Dalal Swami Gimmicks. They're my first swami, and I need some advice on how to get them to stay on, because... well they don't. I've even grown my thumb nail a bit especially!

Should I bend the C "wings" in any particular way?

I there a special knack to writing? (I find that any sideways movement makes the gimmick come loose)

I also bought the Sam Dalal gimmicks and found that I had the same problem. I didn't manage to solve it so, for now, I use a boon or the SS. I'll be interested as to whether anyone has a solution.

A mentalist friend of mine just switched fron a nail writer to a TT writer. He says it's great not having to fear the nail writer coming off anymore.

I think I may try one myself.

I also have a TT writer that I have used to great effect. My only qualm with this is the lack of maneuverability and agility (I'm faster with a boon). I would highly recommend it though!

This is very off-topic, but pocket writing is a very effective writing method as well.

I have a boon, swami, and TT writer. I must say I prefer the Boon and TT writers for reliablity and ease.

I bought a box of 20 moon writers because at a crucial moment in my show I need to ditch out the gimmick without having it noticed and this is just the perfect size for it. and most of the time I loose them / break them, so it's just the unexpensive solution.

I actually buy a bit of small sized construction double sided tape, this holds like edited, put a small dib on it and you are good to go, keeping your thumbnail a bit longer does help as well.

I just scraped the paint off the wings of the gimmick. As these go under your thumbnail (and you're not going to be flashing the gimmick around anyway) I didn't think it was useful at all. Now the gimmick is MUCH more stable. It can still come off but only if I'm writing a short essay.



Max, do you mean the kind of tape that is supplied for sticking hooks to walls etc.?

Yes, any double sided tape will do, unless it's the cheap ones that looks like schotch tape, buy those that comes in yellow-dark orange-ish colors.

I found crushing the lead holder of the swami against the "c" allows it to clip tightly to the nail. I know this may sound bizarre but I would recommend Nail Thickener if your nail is too thin to keep the swami on it when you've crushed it down.
