I do a trick where i cut my arm and then use "psychic surgery" under the cover of a napkin and the blood and cuts are gone. One time I was preforming this and one kid said "it's ketchup" and actually took some of the blood on his finger and ate it before i could stop him. He almost vomited. Everyone in the audience got a laugh out of it, but how to i avoid it happening again? (I was surrounded 360 so i couldn't move back)

Sounds like you should hire the kid to do that every show!

yeah, lol. If you didn't say it was ketchup it shouldn't be any legal problems, or am I wrong? It would be his fault, since it was obious that it was blood (you don't have ketchup in your veins) And it would also act as a good convincer.

ketchup doesn't look like blood unless you add coke and green food coloring to it.

Hmm... Well, since you did not ever tell him to eat it, you are safe from lawsuits. People can't sue you for their stupidity (well, they can... But they often don't.)

Don't perform a trick like that in a scenario you can't control. You chose to perform the trick at close range, and you let yourself get surrounded. You have to either keep control or learn how to respond when you lose, or are about to lose, control.

This is really not the place to ask if you can get sued. I highly think anybody on here knows the laws about these things. We can tell you how not to do that again and be more carefull. Just dont use reel blood if thats the case. Make sure what ever you use its food grade.

Many, many years ago I was really into horror films, which then lead me to pursue doing makeup effects around Halloween. One of my favorite ways to make blood is a simple solution of Corn Syrup and red food coloring.

So if you try using those two materials to create more blood, and then someone does the same idiotic stunt that kid did. They won't get sick from foolishly tasting something they think it is, when it actually isn't.

Hopefully you will give it a try and see how well it works for you.

the trick Card On Ceiling (Worlds Greatest Magic) [sick] shows the best types of stage blood to use and how to make really realistic edible blood (variations from the corn syrup recipe) :)

Before the routine tell everyone that you are about to perform an effect in which people in the past have come up and began to eat items you are working with and to please not do that.
You don't have to mention what was eaten but might make for some interesting conversation after the show. Doing this will add a touch of curiosity, humor and a polite warning.

I simply don't perform tricks with blood for kids. Yes, I'm sure they can handle it, it's the parents I'd be worried about.
