So I've been working on memorizing the mnemonica stack and have been making pretty good progress. Had a quick question though.

I've been a lot better at remembering the card from its location rather than the other way around (i.e. it's easier for me to say which card is at position 15 rather than what position the six of spades is) and I'm wondering if memorized deck work requires you to do both with equal ease.

I'm guessing the answer is yes, and if that's the case I know familiarity will come with practice. I'd just like to know what I'm in for as I learn this.

Thanks.

Not all of it does, but enough. It'll come with practice.

Thanks Ex, that's mostly what I figured. Luckily the memorizing is going well, so I'm not too worried. I'm betting I'll be comfortable with both ways before the new year.

That's good to hear. I've been meaning to learn the Aronson Stack for a while now. I really need to get around too it.

The easiest way to practice it is with drills. Cut the deck and try and name how many cards you've cut off by identifying the numeric value of the card on the bottom of the packet. Shuffle a deck and deal through it, trying to name each card's Mnemonic number as quickly as you can. Some of my best routines have developed from the drills I came up with to practice the stack. And familiarity is the way to mastery.
