I find their writing styles to be very similar. I already had most of Lorayne's stuff, now I'm stumbling into Paul Gordon and spending too much money again. Gordon's Card Startlers DVD set has me all excited to get his books.

Yeah, I can definitely see the similarities between their styles, now that you mention it. I only know Lorayne's writing from what I've read of Apocalypse (and his postings on the cafe).

I do have a Paul Gordon book somewhere but never really got into it; the book had a lot of faro work in it which I'm not proficient in, and other tricks required more set up than I was interested in doing on the fly. I was also put off by the absence of illustrations in the book.

I know a lot of people really like his stuff though, so one of these days I'll have to give the book another try. Or possibly pick up the DVD set.

outrageous42ne: The first 50 pages or so of many Paul Gordon books are on Google Books. Do a quick search and you'll find a couple of them to sample before you purchase anything.

I've been aching to get the classic collection for a while now. I've just got too much other stuff that i need to get through first. I've learned a few of loraynes effect through other sources though, and I loved them.

For some reason though i've never been very impressed with paul gordon. I've only seen videos of him on youtube and don't really know him for anything else but what i have seen of him has all been very bland and unmagical and uninteresting to me. Maybe its just the way he performs his material. He does seem to just rush through it. But yea im definately gonna snag the classic collection and then the classic collection volume two eventually. I might go check out that google books thing you were talking about though. Maybe it'll change my mind about paul.

Yeah...I think he's a heck of strong exciting performer! His YouTube vids are some of the best out there!
