I suppose this post could be in "off topic", but it does have a bit to do with mentalism. :)
Does anyone watch that show? For those of you that do, would you say it's even possible for a man to be so...astute??? (to say the least!)
His amazing perception and mentalism abilities have inspired me to get into mentalism, even though he's just a fictional character and I know it's not possible for an average joe to be such a natural at it..
Just wanted your opinions. :)

I like it better than psych actually. Both are good shows though... just my opinion.

I never could get into the Mentalist.

I do quite enjoy Psych.
There are people out there Like the guy in Psych and even monk could have used his ability to act as a psych.

I rather enjoy the Mentalist, although I'm yet to catch an episode of Psych. As far as anyone being able to achieve such honed abilities? It's more than plausible. I think as a magician, the show, and the methods Jane employs, make a lot more sense. There's mental forces, cold reads, muscle reading, and simple vanishes. I have a stronger appreciation towards the show's content, I think, than a laymen would. In Episode 1, Jane offers a cup of tea to a grieving mother in her own home. As he does there's a close-up of him dunking a teabag, an up&down movement designed to get a nod and a, 'yes' from the mother. A technique most laymen would think nothing of. I'm not sure of the plausibility of this (The tea bag) in the real world, but similar things are employed to create agreement in mentalism. But hey, it is TV and everything's perfect.
And to justify my bias opinion, Simon's dad works at my College.

I didn't notice, that's fascinating. The writers must have plenty of knowledge of mentalism!

They actually have magicians that advise the writers. So they're pretty up with it.

"Addictive," sir.

I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a lecture by Paul Draper, who is one of the people off of whom the lead character in The Mentalist was based (I don't watch the show, but he told me about it after the lecture).
Good man, Paul Draper. Good man indeed.

I imagine that if I had the channel I'd watch the show, but for now, I don't, and I just don't watch television all that much.

The Mentalist is just House, but where people get murdered.

(don't get me wrong, I watch them both)

If you like the Mentalist, I think you would enjoy Lie to Me.

The very first episode of the Mentalist is what hooked me. At the point when Van Pelt says "My friend is psychic" and Jayne replies "The she is either delusional, deceptive, or both"

It's nice to see some rationality in prime time TV.

Yes, the principle of Downfall was on there, however, the show actually aired before Downfall ever came out.

Downfall was on the Mentalist, but instead of a magic trick it was used as a distraction for the main character to switch out decks of cards to cheat at a card game under the cover of a glass falling off the table and shattering.
