I'm not sure if anyone else has heard about this, but Criss Angel, on one of his latest episodes, claimed to be able to levitate people at their homes. Now, some of you will be old enough, or have done the research on a particular person by the name of Uri Geller.

Uri used to go on the radio and claim to bend listeners spoons or fix broken watches of a number of silly things. The wonderful thing was that people would call in and claim that it worked.

Now, usually I don't bother much with Criss. I'm not a fan, but I just happened upon this information. I find it very weird that Criss would do something that Uri, who we know Criss highly dislikes, did in order to prove that he was psychic.

Would it seem that Criss is now starting to believe his lies that he has special powers?

In some cases, I bet it was the TV itself that was levitated.....

...right out the window.

Hence the phrase "Ideological bigot." I already posted threads long ago about this in relation to Criss being exactly like Uri. It is OK to claim you have real powers, as long as you are Siss. Anyone else who does it is "comical."

I actually levitated to the TV then levitated back to the chair.

I know this is old. I know Criss is a Douchebag, so glad that word isn't censored. I hate him and his attitude however, this was not a display of douchbaggery. It was simple hypnosis.

Criss did a simple induction and suggestion technique, that included closing your eyes. Those easily suggestible would actually feel the sensation of floating, however would not see the reality because they closed their eyes. Those who were not hypnotized, would think wow that didn't work, oh well, or wow he's a douchebag.

Derren did something super similiar with a fall down into your chair on one of his specials. But no one called him on it. Why because there was nothing to call him on.

I really don't think Criss was actually claiming to have powers, he was just presenting a hypnosis trick in his own way. Also for it to work, as it is hypnosis, he has to come across as if he really does have that power during the time of the hypnosis for confidence to exist in the audience members.

Again I hate his presentational style and his.. well everything about him really, but this was just a hypnosis trick not him claiming to be supernatural. If you gotta hate on him, be legit with it ok.

When Uri Geller came back to Israel a few years ago, to do his TV show, he did that spoon-bending-at-your-home thing and it actually worked.
It wasn't a huge bent but I held the bent spoon against an identical spoon and it was clearly bent.

I don't think Chris has a proper amount of prestige to convince many people with that stunt. I remember seeing it and actually attempting to participate, but obviously it didn't work.

No one called Derren on it because all he did is claim to make people fall back into their chairs (nothing extra ordinary), Angel on on the other hand claimed to make them levitate (which is extra ordinary.....extra ordinarily impossible).

The thing Derren was trying to point out is a phenomena known as 'Mass hysteria', a very clever use of it too and no doubt he got a couple of people to call in (actors) and get the ball rolling. Once viewers at home hear testimonies from 'other viewers' they start to believe the stunt, then hey presto it happens to them and they call in (the domino effect) which has been known to make many skeptics into believers.

I think if you are going to do something that is going to effect a mass audience, you should at least make it something which isn't overly hard to believe.

No doubt Chris had a billion actors in his back pocket ;) and a floating grandma on standby for good measure!
