I cam up with a really cool coin effect today and I need to get my hands on a Kennedy Half Dollar with a hole in the center (ala Pen/cigarette through a half dollar trick) So far all of the pen through half dollar gaffs I have found can't be examined. I need a gaff like Sankey's "Smashed"

Thanks!

Look for a local machine shop. Nearly all of them will have a metal punch that can do the job, probably for nothing.

You could just drill a hole thru one too. I've done it several times.

I'm hoping on doing that to a replica/shell of a JFK half dollar instead of a real one lol

Rather than drilling a hole through an actual Kennedy Half, I would prefer to find a replica of the Kennedy Half dollar or a cheap shell and drill the hole through that instead.

I think I'm missing something here! lol. A replica? [Why would there be replicas of a coin that is worth 50cents?!]

Also, just curious, if it was a shell, it wouldn't be examinable, like you wanted, correct?

The shell is a last resort. Also I think they make replicas of half dollars that aren't in circulation.

Basically I would prefer NOT to drill a hole through a coin but at this point it looks like I may have to lol

All this over Fifty Cents? Just dig through your pockets and punch the hole already.

Michael Ammar would take entire rolls of quarters to the machine shop to be punched. He used these as giveaways after his "pencil through quarter" routine, leaving the person with a pencil permanently through the center of the "borrowed" quarter.

I don't know what your plan is, but it's really pretty cheap. You borrow a coin, puncture it, and return it (keeping the switched out good coin in the process). All it costs you is the prep work of the coin, the rest of the routine pretty much reimburses you the coin cost at each performance.

My mistake... I was under the impression that it was illegal to do that to a coin (thus me wanting to avoid it) I'll just go on e-bay and buy a few for cheap then

It's "technically" illegal, but I seriously doubt anyone is going to jail over it. The law is directed toward people altering currency "with the intent to defraud" usually meaning passing it off as a higher denomination.

Why go to e-bay when you can get them from the bank for .50 ?

Good luck

Twist, last time I checked the bank was dumb and didn't have them anymore (for good) I'll check again because I'm pretty sure the person I asked last time was new to the job

Many "local" banks don't carry the halves or Ike's...most of the "national" chain banks do...If nothing else, I picked up a bunch of Ike's for about $1.05 each at a coin shop...halves at about .52 ea...
