I did my first kids show and strolling gig this past saturday. The kids show was what I expected but the strolling I wasn't too sure what I was going to be doing.
First thing, I am suprised at how few different tricks that I actually did throughout the 2 1/2 hours or so. I always try to learn a good amount of tricks to know for what would be my first strolling gig, and it was nice to know that I had that arsenal but I didn't really need all of them.
Second, it was a great way for me to get my name out (the gig was in my home town) and more importantly get my card out. When I left college and started student teaching I said that I learned more in that first week of student teaching and actually being there than I did in any class in college.
This gig was similar, deffinetly know your material/sleights/how you want to present your effects, but it is different than being alone. You have all different types of people that react differently to different tricks or presentations.
I am at work now and my break is almost over, but I wanted to share some of my experience from saturday, which overall was really cool and a fun experience.
Will add more details later when I have time....
Hope all are well,
Ari
