So I was at the local supermarket yesterday and I was looking at what cards they had (sometimes they get some cool ones mixed in) when I noticed that they had both Rider Back Playing Cards and Playing Cards Standard... is there a diff at all? I have both and as far as I can tell I don't see any difference at all w/ the exception of the box... anyone have any info on this?

Different box, that's all.

Though it's supposed to be a "box only" change, it seems to me that the card edges are a bit rougher right out of the box with the "standards".

Also, this kind of bummed me out because of a few "card case effects" that might not work out so well, so I bought quite a few empty Rider Back boxes as back-up. Those are steadily going up in price now.

Yes I thought the same thing. I'm a fan of Gregory Wilson's "Boxspring" and you have to use the rider back box to do this effect.

The "Standard" stands for Standard Index, as opposed to Jumbo Index. They are both Rider back cards and so is the average Jumbo Index. The box with the Standard on it is simply advertising such. Same cards on the inside.

They've shrunken the pips, you should watch closely !!

Glad someone posted this. I have been looking for some new decks and all I saw was a funky new case and it said standard, not 8088 or whatever the RiderBacks were so I did not purchase them. Wonder if Costco still sells the case of Rider Backs for about $13 if so, I may have to renew my membership!!

According to John Bayme at T11 the poor color quality and smaller index size were a result of USPCC getting used to their new facility. The word is that they should have that all cleared up and many of the quality control issues that we have been complaining about lately should be resolved soon.

They have stopped making the old box designs.
