Has anyone ever had a show/performance when like a heckler or someone says "Hey, say something funny". What is your response?

It happened to me the other day, I was doing a show at my school and a really cool 9th-grader said "hey say something funny", and I kinda shouted at him

"THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN TRYING TO DO ALL THE TIME BUT YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND A SH*T!"

everyone laughed and he remained quiet for the rest of the day. was that a good response?

Not especially. Not only was it not that funny, it brought you down to his level.

You aren't there to be funny, unless that's your character, so you don't have to say something funny. Sometimes the best thing to do with hecklers is to ignore them.

I may not be funny but I can show you something Interesting, amazing, fun, weird, curious, wonderful. Take your pick. Focus the magic then from the funny to the magic...

i would have said... "Something funny"

But no it was not a good response, you should never take time to handle a heckler. Just ignore them and do your magic.

"I'm not your mother, don't shout at me"
"I'll do it if you do it first"
"I'm sorry ladies and gentleman... he's always around here..."

Acknowledge that he shouted that at you and then tell them a joke, it can be a groaner or whatever, a simple knock knock joke even- it depends on if he is shouting out in a malicious way, not all interruptions from the audience is heckling; sometimes they honestly just want interaction

I thought the same thing. But even that may acknowledge the heckler too much.

If shouting things at people made them do it go away would be shouted at u a lot

Just state your not a comedian.

Simplest shortest answer and if he asks again he will look like a douche.

guys, i have to totaly disagree. not dealing with a heckler is a horrible way to go about things! what you need to do is crack a joke at them. do something thats a. funny and b. says this is my show, butt out.
