It's an interesting and (if presented in a light-hearted style) somewhat amusing reveal, but is only effective if it fits your performance persona. Its approach is very much "old-school" magic, harking back to the days when the patter was a blend of pseudo-science and mystical magic; but today, mystical approaches tend to just be corny or reminiscent of fraudulent fakirism.
That said, I may just incorporate this effect into my Tarot deck routine, but remove the last bit of having the Magus Card be a duplicate of the chosen: doesn't seem to work too well with a Tarot deck, and may introduce to the spectator the uncomfortable idea of duplicates existing. Instead I'll just have it on the back of a Major Arcana like the Magician or have it on a separate card (of the same size) that is later then introduced to the deck.
