I had a stack of four silver half dollars and one shell sitting in one place for about three weeks, untouched. Last week I get them out and see that the coins are normal but the shell has changed color! It became a very light brown (almost sort of brass-colored).

Obviously I'm looking for a way to remedy this as the shell now does not match the coins.

Thanks, תודה, Gracias and Spasibo.

Is the shell silver? as in '64 Kennedy, Walking Liberty? or is it clad?

Well, I don't know what clad means but I know my shell is a silver one from Johnson.

Is it a 64 Kennedy or Walking Liberty Shell or a standard half dollar? Clad coins mean the coins have different metals in them, like zinc, nickle, and copper. They have a brown ridge around the outside edge.

Correct. If your coin is a Kennedy half dollar that is not from 1964, it is a CLAD half. If it is a Kennedy '64 or older, then it is 90% silver.

Oh okay. I have 1942 Walking Liberties so I'm pretty sure their silver.

Yeah. The only problem with silver coins is that they tarnish. I made the mistake of holding a stack of Morgans together with a few rubber bands and it left black lines all over them.
