Aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh........relaxation. My first PAID gig was a few hours ago.

From my viewpoint it went good, not great. But my parents said it was phenomenal (they claim it's not a biased opinion) and some of the audience members commented on my "amazing show".

A few problems that occurred today:

1) It was SUPPOSED to be a show for adults but somehow their kids ended up being the center of attention. I had to adapt some of my show to kids standards. Most of the parents were watching the show, so that was good.

2) Corded Microphone= Never again. I was supplied with a mic with a long wire running out the end. I either had to hold it or leave it in the stand. Unfortunately, neither should have been an option. And the wire actually got stuck on the stage once. My new rule is: Either wireless mic or no mic.

3) There was a puppet show right before mine. Somehow the puppeteer (spell-check didn't show, so it must be a word) fit in TWO shows together for about an hour. When I got up there I was rushed.

Now enough bad. Let's talk positive:

Benji: I took your advice about the business card line and some parents came up after the show and asked for my card. That went well.

This will happen to you 100% of the time there are ANY kids anywhere in the gig. Kids will find you interesting, and parents see it as an opportunity to "get rid of the kids for a while" in a safe environment.

There's a variety of methods to handle this, but you need to prevent them taking over your show. Personally, I'll do SOME tricks for them and then return to the adults. And either assign them as my designated audience or "make them my assistants".
