One of my best mates(haha) here at school is studying abroad in England with his girlfriend and they really want me to come over there for about 4 days. I really wanna go but I'm looking at 600-750$ for a plane ticket round trip. It's not just about them. This is like a once in a lifetime chance. I know I could go later in life but it wouldn't be the same obviously(I think so). I CAN afford it but it's still so much money!!! I could do so much with 700$. If I go, we could take the train into mainland Europe and stuff and I could visit Beatles landmarks in Liverpool. This decision is driving me crazy!!! I'm not sure what the point of this thread is. Just post whatever as a response. Traveling experiences, college, money. Whatever.

My advice (from a lot of experience):

England is expensive relative to the USA. If $700 for air-fare is making you reconsider, remember that every little thing that comes up while you're there will cost a lot, maybe double. For 4 days? Assume you'll be spending at least another $300-400 just to get around, eat, etc (ie. THE MINIMUM).

Join the military. They will send you to Europe for free.

(just make sure you get that into your contract or they might send you to Afghanistan)

I think I would say go. Just because you'll get more money in the future, and you're right, this is a once in a lifetime chance.

I say go....

We live here in Germany and love traveling.

I do agree with ACAR. The cost will be high. The exchange rate right now is 1 Dollar is worth .62 Pounds. That means that a Pound will cost you about $1.59. You will be paying about $.60 extra compared to the price displayed.

To put it in perspective if you go get Fish & Chips for 3.99 (Pounds) it will really cost $6.43

I am dreading the rate right now for my trip to Blackpool in February. I am going to the FISM European Championships.

Good Luck

The Army can offer you up to $40,000 in signing bonuses.

Think of how many British Pounds you could get with this amount of money!!!

Be all that you can be. And find your future.

As you know, the British Empire isn't as big as it once was.
Furthermore, due to globabl warming, the British Isles (the remainder of the once grand empire) will probably sink.
And this will probably happen in our lifetime.

Thus, he needs to hurry.

It's once in a lifetime because my best freind from college (other friends too) is in England. We are only 19. You must be 21 to drink in America but we are of age in England.

You can also go to Canada or Mexico. These two countries are much closer and also serve alcohol.

I'm still paying for trips to Europe and other parts of the world I took years ago. While I definitely have learned my lesson about credit cards and wouldn't do such a thing again, I don't regret having done it since those experiences will be cherished for ever. If you can afford it without having to get in debt, go for it. If your idea of being able to afford it has anything to do with the credit limit on one (or more) of your credit cards, maybe you need to save up for next time instead.

Getting booze is not a problem. Believe me, I'm in a fraternity. There is much more to it, I just left that as an answer cause I'm not going.
