The cost of the Blackpool magic convention is becoming beyond ludicrous, in 2009 the entrance fee was £35
in 2010 it jumped to £55 and currently the price stands at £85 for 2011.
I dont see the standards of entertainment increasing, just increasing prices.
in 2009 we saw top performers such as James rhandi, Mcbride and daryl for £35 and in 2011 we see Sankey and micheal finney.
I think the calibre has in fact dropped plus on top of the entrance fee you pay extra for the gala shows.

Just add your accommodation, food and flight fees and you'll be spending quite a few paychecks.

This is all before you actually BUY any tricks.

I cant believe that people are approving of this crap....does anybody else feel slightly bum- raped over these prices???

Sounds like quite a bargain! Have you priced World Magic Seminar, Magic, FISM, IBM or SAM conventions recently?

The prices for everything have gone up..........

I think the price is quite reasonable considering they will host the first ever FISM European Championship this year as well.

I am going since I am close and the airfare is cheap.

Next year I'm going to the FISM World Championship and the price for that IS high.

450 to 550 Euros depending on when you book the tickets. I was going to take my girls too but 2000 Euros is a big expense.

Ok maybe i'm being a bit of a cheapskate, but what about the whole derek lever thing. I read lots of accounts of him being quite a nasty person from people who he has banned for no good reason.

Is any of this true does anybody know of this practice?

I have never even heard of Derek Lever.... until you mentioned him.

I am just going to go and enjoy myself.

I've heard the stories too. Don't have any direct proof that any of them are true. It would be a shame if the FISM officials let him get away with controlling their event the way it was purported to happen in the past at Blackpool.

£85 is about $140 USD. That's pretty cheap compared to conventions in the US at the moment. The talent lineup at Blackpool looks pretty awesome to me. I'd say that's a pretty good deal. I'm attending a local convention (www.abracorndabra.com) here in the US Midwest in May and the fee is about £92 and the scope of the convention is much smaller than Blackpool. I'm just thrilled to have a convention somewhat close to where I live.
