Forgive the pun, but what is this ? ... a trick question ?
There are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of "best" close-up tricks/routines.
It all depends on personal taste ... most everyone will have their personal favorites.

The best trick I've ever seen is 'NO MORE CARD TRICKS' published in the June 2009 issue of Magic Magazine.

KingoftheKards, this question gets asked a lot. As Frijid_Pink said, this question has no answer because it is all down to personal taste and circumstances. And even taking one person's opinions into account, again, the answer will depend on how you define "best". As for how "amazing" a trick is, that depends on the performance, not the trick itself, so I can't give you a definitive answer there either.

BUT, simply bashing your question gets us nowhere. I assume you're just on the lookout for a new trick to buy. The problem is that we don't know much about your style of magic, beyond it being close-up; your experience; current things you own and like; things you don't; your price range. If you give us a few starting points, I'm sure a couple of us can come up with some helpful suggestions.

I think the key word is "in your opinion"

Each person has a favorite. There's no reason to read any more into it than that.

I don't care if he's looking to buy something or just making conversation. My favorite is my own creation "Quintuplicate Coincidence." I don't care if anyone else (besides my audience) likes it or not. It's "best" because it works for me.

My favorite would be one that i came up with; Special Surprise. Its a card effect.
I am also working on 2 sponge Sponge ball routines, that I plan on making 2 of my hardest hitters. One using the goshman Ding Dong and one using black SBs for 'dark matter.'

Also, Re-Clipped in the October 2008 issue of Genii Magazine is pretty sweet.

Pocket Space by Anthony Miller is a fantastic Close-Up illusion. It is now sold as Pocket Space Plus as there are added ideas and improvements which make this routine transcend all forms of magic. Since Penguin is currently Out of Stock on this, check it out at Tony's site here:

Is this the only reason you come on here nowadays? To plug your own material? Does it even matter how many copies they sell?

My fav. would be muscel reading. Probaly because I created it and it works 4 me. When preforming you might want to get to know the person you're trying it out on. works better that way.

You invented muscle reading ? WOW ! :)

I don't know about the BEST close up effect. My favourite to do is a multiple card selection and revelation done blindfolded (or not, i don't mind). I don't consider it the BEST trick ever, but i enjoy it most.

My favorite close up routine is the linking rings, but it has to be done right.
