how much time do people practise...? i spend about 3 to 4 hours a day on my card sleights...(while watching movies, walking and listening to audiobooks or other stuff where my hands are free)

Keep up at that pace if it is working for you. That's more time than I get in, unfortunately for me. Just be sure to get performance time too. That also takes practice.

I have been trying to polish my overhand shuffle control for a while now.
Just can't get it to be sure-fire everytime

Just browinsg through and noticed some posters on working on the bottom deal. From my experience, the bottom deal is a highly skilled move, and even at that, a high risk move. High risk means, there is a high chance of being detected.

One of the reasons the bottom deal is high risk is because of the form used to excute it. It has to be highly uniform, therefore, giving others the clue of expert card handling being done. When others pegged the dealer as a an expert card handler, then they watched very closely. In my line of work, that is a no no.

IMO, I would look to another move that would give the same effect without showing expertise in card handling.

Just my two cents on bottom dealing.

3 months further, i'm finally able to do the pass invisible under people's noses.. still not looking perfect (not smooth enough) but i'm proof that practising for months really means you'll be able to do it

Lately I have been working on the Figaro Transfer and catching cards in a fan.

Working hard on catching in a fan. I can almost do it 3-out-of-5 times. Haven't yet been able to determine the difference that I'm introducing to make it better/worse.

eostresh: I see you mention this, too. Do you (or others reading) tend to catch them in the same general area?

For instance: I'll turn the thrown cards around, so they face opposite the deck, and go through the deck until they're all flipped (for practice). I tend to notice that the first many cards all land together/in a row.

Is that just freakish consistency, or is that proof of some method I could exploit to get better catches?

Been working on a lot of flourishes. I want to narrow my focus on Jay Sankey's Wichita Slip, for one of his tricks on the International Collection DVD, Three Times Lucky.

If you want some great teaching on catching a card in a fan get Chris Weihl's "Fanblade" It is a free download and he has one of the best "hints" on how to make this move consistent. I'm now catching two cards thrown together in a fan pretty consistently.
