I've run into that too. I think what keeps me going is that magic has it's roots in art. It's a lot harder to do than in music or painting for example, but if you work hard enough on your character rather than the moves you do, I find that you can really get across a message through magic. You can say just about anything you want to say and if your a good enough performer, it will hit home with the audience. Although they might not be the most technically skilled compared to others whom we might consider move monkeys, I'd consider people such as Gazzo, Kyle Eschen, etc. the most talent magicians personality wise. If you've ever left a magic show and felt you knew the performer on a deeper level than just "the entertainment" that's what I strive for and the reason I haven't just moved on to an art in which I could more easily express myself; I have something to say and this is how I plan to say it. Just my opinion, but if it weren't for that I would have given up a long time ago.
