I rewatched david blaine's specials many times and i find him not really that good as most layman finds him. all the tricks are pretty basic and i figure that most of the spectators are actually his friends. Some mentalism tricks too such as number or card guess, on video its really easy to fake.

It may be a few of his friends but for the most part it's a lot of editing. But the dude's doing his thing making money and getting women, all power to him.

He's one of the best--- Thats all I have to say. If there was a contest between Blaine and any person posting on this site, he would win--although I think Oz would give him a run for his money!!

I'm pretty neutral on Blaine myself. I don't think he's the greatest magician, nor do I think he's a bad magician. It's pretty evident though that he had some kind of break or help getting his TV specials. He's responsible for getting a lot of young people interested in magic and renewing others interest in magic. Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing is a matter of opinion. I like to watch any kind of magic performed well and performed with flair, dedication and conviction. Aside from the editing done in his levitations I have nothing against the man. He could perform at my party any time he wishes. More power to him.

I agree, I enjoy watching magic on tv all the time. A lot of people say he has no skill, but you can't judge someone just on his specials alone, I wouldn't doubt hes probably an overall better magician than most. He worked his way up, so if he makes millions every year at something he enjoys and makes some people jealous that arn't as determined, power to him.
