What do you use when someone thinks they figured the effect out. Such as spotting the IT or saying something like "The card isn't real "

I prefer using a thumb to the throat or eye. But that scares away the audience

There are three options for you to take when somebody say that. 1) If the tricks is a sleight of hand trick then hand them the card and tell them to show you. 2) If they figured it out then get some itching powder and put it on their back. Don't let them know you did it. 3) Turn away and run like a sissy.

someone says "I know how you did that" I just say "so do I" depending on your audience you'll get a smile and they'll pass it off then go on to something else.

If they blurt out the secret point smile and say "that's great but you forgot about the little metal string that travels up my sleeve and connects to the small circular box attached to my leg which unknown to you pulls the card/coin/whatever into it creating a magnetized gravitational pull allowing all the magic to happen" say that all in one breath really fast and then stop to breathe, smile again and walk off, it'll be one of those awkward but funny moments they won't know what to think so they'll laugh and pass off whatthe otehr person said.

If someone blurts out how you did it, whether they are right or wrong, you may always say, "HEY! That's pretty good, I might try it that way next time." or "I've tried it that way before and it didn't work." If they say something like, "That's a fake coin." or "Those are trick cards." You may always say, "There's such a thing? Sometimes I'll say "Shhh", interupting them if possible, "Don't tell, it may spoil the trick for someone else." This works well with most kids, sometimes they feel special that they share or think they share knowing the secret with the magician. For a response of "How did you do that?"- A favorite is to say "Can you keep a secret?", they usually say "Yes", then you say, "So can I."

depending on your style of humor and your rapport with your audience, if that heckler blurts out...'that card isnt real'. Simply say..."That might be so. But that 'rug' on your head probably isn't either, yet you keep showing it to all your friends". This goes against my principal of not insulting your audience. So, after his friends stop laughing, briefly apologize and invite him on stage (or wherever) to help you with the next trick. You had your fun with him, he got to help you with a trick, and now you thank him, ask the audience to applaud him and he sits down and should be quiet for the rest of your act.
