I work with children one-on-one in counseling settings and I've started using magic as a good ice-breaker/rapport builder. I was wondering if you had any suggestions for magic tricks, keeping in mind that it would only be performed in front of one child (4 to 12 years old) at a time and that it would have to be pretty close-up. Here's what I have so far (not 100% sure on some of the names):

hot rod
pena coin
television picture box/color prediction box
ball and vase
color monte
color changing ball to jumbo square
dragon coin changing box (not sure if they sell it on this site)
card trick book
(the ones below are in the mail)
ickle pickle nickle
sphinx magical box
nickels to dimes

are there any that I'm missing that you would recommend for what I'm using the tricks for?

P.S. Does anyone know anything about the crazy compass? The item description isn't very descriptive of what the trick actually does.

You might want to check out a TT blendo effect. However, I cant tell you if this trick is amazing, but I am thinking about using it for a similar situation. It is very visual, which is a must with children.

If you don't have a TT, get one with a few silks. More important than showing them a trick, have fun with them. Entertain them.

That's what I thought too! It stands for TT.

For some reason when you try to explain what tt stands for it just puts tt?
Tip is the last one and thumb is the first one.

It seems to change when you type it. The word is also on the description of "Kid Shows" before entering the forum!

I usually call it a TT: sorry for the TT. Their cheap and very effective.
