I haven't done any kids shows yet, for money. But I have a routine that is about 22 1/2 minutes long, which I have performed for the church kids some of my neighbors' kids. I was trying to make the routine into a half hour show, and I think I need some help just in general.

The routine is:

Hummercard with spec's credit card
Vanishing Bandanna
Picture Perfect (an effect that produces a birthday card inside an empty picture frame)
Coloring Book
Peanut Butter and Jelly
Change Bag Candy Production

I also use the vanishing hank as a running gag throughout the show.

What I am looking for mainly, is a way to either use the change bag in a more outstanding effect, or another effect or two that would fit in with the routine.

I have Proffessor's nightmare, but I am not quite comfortable with the handling of it. I think this could be an addition, but I am not sure if it fits in with everything else. Just thought of this: I could use the change bag to produce the ropes.....

Anyway, I am just looking for some advice so that I can have a half hour show. A 22 1/2 minute performance doesn't exactly fit into the church programs or anything, haha

I am working a miser's dream children variation into my routine. I picked up the idea from Sammy Smith's book "Big Laughs for Little People", except I am developing my own style and patter. Maybe you can add that in? Its not too long and both the children and adults will enjoy it.

Perhaps a silk or hanky routine may add a little to your show. Another idea is incorporating a puppet act. It does not have to be a vent performance as a hand puppet with a solid routine can work just as well. I think it is a good idea to break up the magic.

I hope this helps!

Have fun! :)

I start my shows with a change bag. I change silks into a long streemer. I also use professors nightmare, this is a great effect to draw the kids in and cool them down a bit.

You have plenty there to do a half hour show standing on your head. You can and should do a warm up before your show that takes around five to seven minutes long.
I'll PM you on it.
