Is there any books or DVDs on preforming kids magic you would recommend?

Which would be better? It is the same effect, one is just bigger....What the heck do you mean which would be better??

Do you want to spend the extra money so kids can clearly see them, or do you not want to spend the extra money so kids can still clearly see them? It's not like the mini's won't be able to be seen if you are doing small kid's shows. I think the colors are different, but that's about it.

Which would be better for you should be the question! Think about what size parties you are going to be willing to do, then think about the other effects in your routine, how much space you need for those. If you are going to be performing things in which the kids can sit fairly close, then you could get the mini's, but if you are using some effects that need more space, go for normal.

Honestly, this is like asking which would be better, a extra large TT or just a normal one....you know the answer, not us!

I have been developing a routine of my own for quite some time. I highly recommend you focus on some books or dvds that aim at theory alongside tricks. Dont copy their routines, but use them as a guide to developing your own unique style. Dont get me wrong, get some tricks, but dont purchase them simply because they are a kids show items. You will find that there are hundreds of tricks out in the magic world, so choose carefully.

Some resources that have helped me thus far include Big Laughs for Little People and Children's Magic the Herbert way dvd (Terry Herbert). These sources not only explore theory, but solid tricks and routines as well (adapted to your own style as mentioned before)

David Ginn material is also supposed to be a good resource, but I have not examined it in depth yet.

I recenlty picked up the balloons by Penguin and also ordered a How To Make Balloons Magic dvd. I think it's a great addition to kids' magic show. You can turn and twist all kinds of animals with balloons. It's a great ice breaker for kids and their parents.

Is there any book/DVD you would recommend that look more into the preformance side of kids shows, patter, routine building ect..

I second the reccomendation of "Children's magic the Herbert way".
Eric Sharp has some books out with great routines in them.

I wouldn't worry so much on the aspect of doing magic for kids as I would about 'performing' for kids.
Doing the magic is the easy part, keeping them entertained and interested is what you need to put a lot of time into and study on. Doing magic for adults I feel is easier than with kids.

Herberts is good, although not a lot of routining help there. I would go for Dan Harlan's Pack Small Plays Big Birthday DVD, he shows you a show he did for some kid, all out of a briefcase, then goes over all the effects, some homemade, and gives tips on why to do certain things, how to get them involved, why he does his routine etc. It is a very good primer on doing kids shows and if you are on a budget, worth every penny.

The one I feel beats them all is: The birthday party business-making a living as a children's performer. It teaches you how to put together a show from start to finish. How to put on a magic show for kids etc.
