For our school me and my magic friends are doing Houdini's metamorphasis trick. Should I use handcuffs or chains?

What difference does it make? If you can answer that, then you will know which you should do.

But things happen behind the scenes, in a sense, so it should not matter.

You might try to do this the way you rehearsed the effect.

There's a magic club at the middle school in my district. I'm a highschooler and I always help out at it. We did this trick this year and last year and it got great reactions. We did handcuffs. I also prefer handcuffs over chains.

Audience reactions and believability. If you take out a pair of your own handcuffs they might think "psh trick handcuffs". If you are bound with chains it looks bulkier. In the Audience's eye Bulkier=Harder. To them the mroe stuff around your wrists the harder it must be.

Hey Jch you think that we are stupid we will do a swich with the cuffs if we do cuffs...
There is a school resorce officer at our school we will barrow the hand cuffs and then perform the swich. as we get the box. easy..

I never said you were stupid. And please don't put words in my mouth and tell me what I do or do not think, because you don't know.

Back to the topic at hand. i was giving my opinion and audience perception. The audience will always be suspicious. But lets run with your idea, doing a switch. The best way to do this switch undetected from a hard looking audience is a change bag. Your assistant get's the officer's cuffs in the change bag and the change is made in transit, taking supicion off of you. Then after you are done you have to undo the switch and return the cuffs.

But once again suspicious from the audience.
"Why the bag?" is the prominent question there. But even if you audience if a bunch of fools that doesnt think trick handcuffs exist, the bulkier the binds, the better the reaction and believability.

The audience will always be supicious, your job is to make them less suspicious and have them enjoy it.

Bulkier binds = The audience believing it is harder to get out of.

You want the escape to seem imposible and then the audience will love you for gettig out of it.

But back to your rude comment:

I have an escape act every other thursday at a local restaraunt. I am taking part in the World Wide Escape Artist Relay. Escape is what I do. So I realize that one would switch the cuffs. But I also realize how an audience tends to think on certain aspects. So please, don't make rude comments like that.

Sorry for digging up an old topic.

I'm also doing this trick for the talent show at my school this coming year(along with tonyjones102). We're buying the plans for the trunk, and we're making it soon.

How did your performance go, clay and livitup? Any tips you can give?

We're buying fuzzy love cuffs for the effect, as a joke, heh. I think we're going to cuff the first person, put them in a bag, lock the trunk(multiple pad locks), then wrap the chest with a large chain, and pad lock the chain.

This should look effective. Any tips as for the performance?

Also, we're planning appearing the first cuffed person in the audience, and the second will appear inside the trunk.
