I only do that with other magicians. To any laymen, I wouldn't say I read a book. That brings it down to something anyone could do.

The Bible, you would be amazed the stuff they put in there!

That's about all I can come up with off the cuff, incidently I have used the bible one and the next day seen about 3 people flicking through them when I see them at school the next day. I doubt you will like these at all but they seemed like a good idea at the time.

HEY! Thats great!! I'll use that.. :D

i really hate it when people ask me that. I wouldn't mind if they ask me where i got that trick or how i learned that but they always say, "who taught you that?" Like it's something that my uncle taught me when i was in 2nd grade, but i'm really putting in all that time (and money) to be able to do the tricks i do.

Just quickly before I fire off a few more I thought of last night, if you go with the idea of the trick being something your uncle taught you, it gives you a great reason to move onto PK touches by Banachek. That being said, here are a f ew more ideas:

I learnt this one from the preface of my favourite Latin Grammar books: "The Deliberative Subjuctive and You"

A TV infomercial; before I learnt how to do this trick I used to weigh 500 pounds!

It was just a strange magical blessing from God after I selflessly donated most of my money to the local magic store

A witchdoctor from a remote village in Equitorial Guinea cursed me after I got slightly inebrieated and ran around his house naked chanting the lyrics to ABBA songs

Je ne sais pas mais si tu peux comprendre quoi je dis, on ne peut nier le fait que tu es tres intelligent(e). Quand meme je pense que tu es un con.

It was part of an optional benefits list from my car insurance policy

Well first the voice inside my head told me to dump my girlfriend, buy a pack of cards and meditate in the Andes. I didn't quite reach Nirvana, but now I can do some really cool things, wait, I think I hear the voice again...

42

I've been genetically modified, for an extra $15 I could have made my hair taste like chicken!

I didn't learn this from anywhere, it just happened. Have you ever wondered what happens to children who continually run into clear glass doors? Well, let me tell you, it does have adverse effects upon your life, since then anytime I have money it either vanishes or doubles.

I am being asked about this in nearly every performance, I don't think you should bother and worry so much about this question as this is an easy one, there are other much harder questions they'll ask that cannot be answered. Fairly easy to answer the question and keeping them quiet with just the phraze I'll always use "Years of reading and studying the art" or anything similar.

I agree, for family and friends, be honest, but anyone that's not immediate friend or family, then it's almost an insult to my ability, like; "oh how cute, this kid does magic, where'd litte marcelli learn them?" so that's when I say something smart - not rude - but smart and entertaining, lots of good ideas here.
