The 'terrorists from Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan attacked us, let's go invade Iraq!' thing never made sense.

We can't kill all the terrorists in the world, as that will make more terrorists, and besides these guys aren't actually terrorists until they start planning to kill themselves.

We have to deal with their motivations. Radical Islam is mainly a result of western foreign policy over the years, supporting dicatators in middle eastern countries. We've helped prevent democracy, so the only opposition groups which form are these radical religious groups in favour of absolute religious-based totalitarianism. They've been treated incredibly badly by the west, it's no wonder they're so mad. Obviously their idea of how to react is totally pointless, stupid, bloody and ineffective, but their motives are understandable. Poor fools.

It's more the abstract concept problem. Thing is, even if 'terror' was some sort of army, it can't be defeated through military means, because when you kill them they become martyrs to inspire more terrorists.

they attacked first...that means that they arent afraid to attack regardless of what we do. If we dont do anything, that means that they win. ALso they could feel that we arent going to attack them back so they can keep doing it.
