When someone says this just reply "so do i,(pause for a second) how unlikely that we meet"(show much sarcasim)"Maybe we meet here today for the same reason those (what ever you where using cards, coins,etc.)(did whatever the effect was)."magic"(STILL SARCASTIC).




People have the right to be stupid.But most hecklers abuse it.

How about this....

"I know how you did that."

"Did what?'

"That trick."

"What trick?"

"The one you just did!"

"I just did a trick? Oh great, the medication's wearing off again. Excuse me."

Walk away.

So you say, "So do I. How unlikely we meet. Maybe we meet here today for the same reason those cards changed to aces."

Two things. This makes no sense. There is a wide range of sarcasm out there, and very, very mild sarcasm sometimes is funny, but done badly, it makes things worse.

Be careful about thinking about how stupid your specs are, especially if you recite sentences like this.

It is probably best to say something like, "That's wonderful, I am proud of you." If you don't think the person will shut up, then I might add, "Let's just keep it our little secret."

If you are doing a real show, you have to stay in character. If you are not sarcastic during your show, you should try not to be to a heckler.

If this is just dealing with other kids in your school cafeteria, then do what you want.

"Really? Would you mind explaining it to me then,because even I don't know how I did it!"

"I am surprised YOU know anything sir!"

"Wow...what do you want? An award?"

"So do I!"

"I also know how I did it, and I thought I did it very well!"

Well, I think there comes a point in several magicians lives where they just simply aren't told that much anymore...It may just be me, but After I thought about it, I have not had anyone say "I know how you did that" in years.

I think it goes back to the principals I was talking about earlier about making magic a form of entertainment and not a puzzle. Because people like to figure out puzzles, but when it comes to fun, they just want to be entertained.

"how did you do that?"
"do you know how to keep a secret?"
"yes"
"so do i"
"i know how you did that"
"so do i! thats awsome, give me a handshake"

A lot of times I'll just give 'em a wink. Let's them know that it'll be "our secret."

That is the best one I've heard mystag! I'll definitely try using if someone says that to me. Just a little tip: from experience working with teenagers, I've found that a lot of people (or the people I do my magic for) say that just not to look stupid. More often than not, they don't actually know how to do it.

That is exactly why I use responses like that, to disarm a possible detractor with humor. The spectator sets it up, and the performer delivers. It usually gets the whole viewing crowd to laugh, and the detractor now feels like he has contributed to the performance. I also use humor when a trick goes wrong (in the style of the Amazing Jonathan). Then it looks intentional, and you can go on to amaze with a different trick.

Why does everything think that being challenging towards a heckler is a good idea? I tend to believe its best not to have someone know how you did the trick. I also believe when you get heckled its your fault. Always your fault. When ever I've heard those words, the first thing in my mind is where I might have went wrong. Sometimes the handling has to be changed, being heckled is a sign that something you've done needs to be changed, if your brakes are making a funny noise, you dont just turn up the radio. Sometimes you may have simply offended someone by showing them magic, maybe they didnt want to see it, or maybe they're offended because you may be talking down to them. Maybe your effects seem childish, maybe you're putting too much focus on an effect. Too many what ifs to give a clear answer. Some people just dont like magic, dont perform for those people.
