I was preforming today, and when I finished my little routine, a spectator asked

"is it a trick deck?"

It wasn't, so I said no. He said

"Oh. I can't believe you could do that with any deck! Cool!"

I was just thinking that I'm getting better at choosing my audiences.

Actually, now, whenever ANYONE asks that, I just say no.

And everytime they accept it and are even more amazed. So Far, Most of them haven't asked to examine the deck.

Also, If I've noticed they're sort of sceptic people, If they ask, I'll say no, but keep the deck moving and flourish, shuffle, and cut.

Yea well thats good, but don't think that will work everytime, you know, yea it might work a few times, but you are going to come across somebody that will want to examine the deck, but most people can have the deck examined because it is normal, but im just saying that what you said will not happen all the time.

but if you do the tricks good and you have a nice presentation they wil NOT ask if the deck is gimmick

i'll ask anyways, just to see if it's worth learning.

here is something i use sometimes i switch decks basically just start to put the cards up as you naturally would and in the same pocket have a second deck hand that out ......

i did a finger chopper trick for someone, (the examinable version) and he broke it open, now i have to buy a new one

I had one guy check my cards for a Stripper Deck.

just saying no to them works for me too EVERY TIME. its crazy.

Sayin no works especially well if you act like you're on the same level as the audience. Often some of the toughest spectators are really interested in magic, and want to prove it to you the only way they no how. So if you allow them to ask you the question, and apparently answer honestly (effectively treating them as if they're "in the know") then they'll be quite content with your answer, and feel good.
