like when someone caght what you were doing, and what method did you use when you got caught?

If they're savvy... 'oops, i got two by mistake'. From there, if it's possible to do the trick using a top change or second deal instead, do. Otherwise, try to flow into another trick which doesn't use the dl.

If you are most of the way through the trick, they spot you and call you on it, and they're a sharp customer.... 'ah, you got me'. Move on to something totally different, or call it a day.


If you are most of the way through the trick, they spot you and call you on it, and there is a big crowd, odds are most of them didn't hear or understand the guys, so you have a chance to try and turn the crowd against them telling them to shut up, then you can still entertain everyone else.

I'll fix that, then keep the top cards controlled at the top with a shuffle and do it again, without messing up...

I usually say oops let me shuffle the deck first then I do a false cut or false shuffle and no one ever says anything more about it.

yea, but what about when you get to the end of the trick and they go

"that was cool, but i saw you picked two cards"

heh....guess just work on the DL a little more

only a few times, but in the past i have had about 10 people in my whole life say... "Oh, thats a DL!". however, I always turn over cards the same way, so sometimes its not, so i just show the card ad say "excuse me? whats that?" They then shut up. Or, if someone says that and it is a DL i will simple do a second deal and show them the card, then secretly place it second from the top again. Its quite simple, bbut always shuts them up.

if you are doing an ambitious card routine then start out with a dl and you get caught let them put the card in the middle and then do the pass. but for other things use a second deal, middle deal or bottom deal wichever you are most comfortable with. or even show them the top card, do the pass and then take the new top card and do whatever with it.


i often use the pass as a color change. just wave your hand and let half the deck fall. when you do this it works great because the other card is no where to be seen.

if your DL sucks then u can use a double back gaff to help you. have the gaff on top of the deck at all times and when you do a DL you can take the top card off and show its a single card bacause the double back gaff still looks like a face down card...of course this method may or may not work depending on what effect your gonna do but it does help in some cases if your DL isnt too good, my friends DL sucks a fat one and i suggested the gaff and even gave him one out of my spec assortment deck, he uses it and it helps him alot..but again it depends on what kind of effect your gonna do...other than that GO PRACTICE!!!!! if magic were something you could do in an hour everyone would be doing it!!!!

Don't do that. Don't let your DL's split apart and keep them in light motion. You can recover from almost any mistake but to expose a DL is the equivilent of giving the specs a little lesson in Card Magic 101.
