I agree with everyone on the one and only...

Dai Vernon.

Simply the best in my opinion. No word to describe his skill.

Done.

so you guys think Vernon's skill is way better than marlo's??

It is unfair to say "way" better. They are both excellent, most just like Vernon better it seems. It is like asking do you prefer Skippy or Jiff.

Well, vernon is definitely (IMO) th best magician of all time.

But marlo is the best CARD magician of all time, which is Why I voted for marlo.

+ The tilt debate still rages on. Why can't we just say both made it?

Marlo admit and gave credit to Vernon for releasing it first in the Tilt booklet, that should settle the debate on who did it first.

I had to go with Marlo because he created a lot of the card magic around today and I think he focused more on cards while vernon did many different types of magic.

[quote="Kexbandit"]Vernon. He invented the DL.

Vernon did not invent the DL - it dates back to the 1600's, same as the pass. Well, mention of it dates back that far anyway. I don't remember the name of the manuscript, but Lee Asher mentions it in his lecture.

As everyone, I voted for Dai Vernon. All of them however were legendary and they all have my utmost respect.

I voted Dai Vernon, he is a "Marvalous" card manipulator. But I wish you would have put the others up there as well, such as Neil Foster, and Jeff Mcbride. I believe they too are wonderful card manipulators. Just my opinion though =)

In the name of God please tell me your kidding.

Its all an oppinion, but my take is theat Vernon was a better performer, but not the better card handler. In addition where his contributions may be more vast than Marlos, it does not outnumber Marlos.

I'd go with quality over quantity.

I went with Vernon as well, but for a reason no one else has mentioned. While his skills were legendary, he was also responsable for influencing 3 generations of the best magicians around. These are people that taught the teachers that taught the teachers, ...that taught us.

In a way, Vernon was instrumental in shaping what is modern magic. His ideas about minimalism in magic have become so part of our art, we barely think of an effect he has not influenced if not directly, than indirectly...by influencing the people that then shaped it. Magic should be simple. It should be possible to describe an effect in one sentence. The less the fingers move the more magical it appears. He influenced Ammar, he Influences Roth, etc...

As to Footage of Vernon He appeared on Mark Wilson's TV show once and did Cups and Balls, and Linking Rings I believe. And Penguin carries it. Not sure where else footage of him may be found.
