Just by reading this thread's title, most people would get a bit annoyed.
So you can imagine how I felt when this SOB heckler said it to me once when I was performing. ( )

Luckily this guy, at 22 yrs old, is still a comic and cartoon freak - so I quickly owned him (no offence to those out there that like comics and stuff, it was just a means to get back at him).
I said "HA, coming from a guy with a wall full of picture books - good one mate *sarcastic clap*, you've earned that one. Meanwhile..." and proceeded with another trick.

It shut him up, but it didn't revive the buzz that he'd killed. Also, it wouldn't have worked (shut him up) if I didn't know him, so does anybody have any ideas to deal with this line (thread topic) without getting too personal and in a way that can keep the mood from becoming awkward?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

A wise magician once said:

We are good magicians once we overcome the reasons, that got us into magic....

a wise magician huh? i bet you're referring to yourself? lol but I dont know the guy, but if that happened to me, i would either ignore it, because magicians definately are NOT geeks, nerds. Lol tell your little buddy to go watch david bliane and criss angel. O ya, those guys are so geeky! OR just get back at him with personal ...um offense i guess.

Why shut him up? Stereotypically, we are supposed to be geeks. I'm sorry, but a man walking about pulling rabbits out of hats is a geek. Just ignore him. Really, you do get use to people and when they realize it doesn't phase you, they'll leave you alone. Also, the fact that women tend to be impressed by magicians and want to hang around and watch the magic, he can go home by himself, while you're entertaining his girl.

Exodus has a very good point. As it has been said in many other tpics in this forum, the rest of the audience will usually take care of the heckler for you.

You betcha we're nerds! Nerds are the ones ruling the world. Take a look at the richest men in the world, and they're not actors, models, or sports jocks. They're geeks!

When that happens to me, (and it's happening less, probably cause I'm getting older so they use the old guy schtick) I yell my appreciation, and have the crowd applaud him. Then I go right back to my routine.

Geeks of the world, UNITE! 8)

Hey exodus! Speaking of dyslexics and nerds......ever hear the one about the dyslexic agnostic insomniac?

He stayed up all night wondering if there was a dog.
