Hey i was just wondering which way you think the sub trunk is stronger. The magician start off in box or on top.

Either way is fine. But if your assitant will take over the show, have him or her placed inside, maybe to give your assitant some "air time" for him to do a few effects.

It could just be because I think of it as the "classic" way of doing it.. but here's how it's don'e in my show.
We do the standard handcuffs and then tied into a mail pouch.
The lid is locked in place and the assistant hops up on top with the fulliard.
we do the switch and then I hop down and unlock the lid.
We find that my assistand is now the one sealed inside the mail pouch and that her hands are now cuffed.
One night we misplaced the mail pouch, we still did the effect and it got a good reaction still... we just had to speed up the whole thing to make it look a little more amazing.
about a year ago I hurt my knee and had trouble climbing out of the trunk... so we tried having me be the one on top to drop in.
It seemed to do well enough... but I felt the show dragged durring the section of getting me out of the bag and moving onto the next effect...

I think it also depends on the image the performer wants to present. If he is simply a magician/illusionist who DOES NOT want to be viewed as an 'escape artist,' the assistant should go into the box first.

If he is a magician/escape artist, including escapes in the show, the performer should go in first, making the feat an 'escape' with a transposition finale (as Houdini presented it).

Learning how to do it (buying it), is the cheap thing. About 25 dollars? The expensive thing is the subtrunk. About 400-500? Right?

I like the classic way that it's been performed. Where the magician starts in the box, handcuffed and in a bag. I think it makes the illusion very strong.
