Just use theirs and not do the same trick.

Unless you were with a gaffed deck...

Well the answer is a multiple one. First, learn to use English properly it should be "their," and "didn't KNOW what." After that the answer follows; Use their deck! You do not need a special deck to do card tricks, any one will do. With a double undercut, a DL, an overhand shuffle and a Hindu shuffle you can keep the crowds entertained for at least an hour with various tricks. Just these 4 techniques will allow you to control a card to the top, the bottom, or anyplace in the deck you want.

With a Hindu shuffle I will force any card I want on a person, then when they have "freely" (yea, sure) "chosen" the card I wanted them to, I will use the overhand shuffle to bring it to the top of the deck, with 2 or 3 riffle shuffles, the card has not moved from the top of deck but I will use a DL to "prove" that it is not there. Then when they pick the top card it is the one I forced. That is just one of several hundred things you can do with just 4 simple things and a deck of cards.

Do a corner break on one of their cards. It will work the same as a short card only thing is you riffle from the corner.

If a corner break is to obvious using someone elses cards, then the short card should be just as obvious in your cards.
As Peter1 stated...

Get away from the gimmick cards and learn the basics.
Learn how to force a card.
Learn how to do a DL.
Learn how to palm a card.
Learn how to do a top change.

The use of different shuffles and incorporating the basics, you don't need to ever have to use your new deck of bikes, tally ho, tiger, ghost, split spades, viper, or any of the other decks, just use the cards you are handed.
