Hi all. I'm looking for some really good hard-hitting, but not too difficult tricks to do in bars and clubs, that get great reactions and/or make people laugh. Tricks that DON'T require too much talking/patter are good because of the often loud music. The more visual the better.

Please note: I am in Australia, so tricks using paper currency are no good, cos we have plastic notes here that don't fold very well at all.

Cost is not so much an issue either. I am happy to spend whatever in order to get a top notch routine together.

Currently I do the following tricks, and I'm really happy with most of them. They get great reactions.

Quantum bands
Basic silk vanish with TT (suggestions on how to enhance or add to this would be great)
Ring on string routine (greg wilson - ring leader)
Lipstick trick (greg wilson - on the spot) i love doing this to chicks. Spins them out big time.
Re-cap revisited (on the spot) Gets people laughing.
Svengali deck
Invisible deck
Magic coloring book (people seem to like it for some reason, but I think I'll drop it soon. A bit too childish maybe)

I'm probably going to get some mini cups & balls, and maybe some sponge balls? I carry small pouch thing around on my belt so i have a bit of room for some equipment.

If you have any suggestions of ways that I can enhance the tricks I currently have, and any tricks that YOU currently do that may be suitable, I'd love to hear your opinions.

get some ciggarete routine trick,sinful,coin in bottle,anything which suits with the ambient.

Double Back, anything with LOOPS, Professor's Nightmare, Flipper Coin and shell, NFW, Monkey in the Middle.....ACR, Triumph, Hover Card. There's a nice set of magic. All reset instantly or very quickly. This is what you want for your setting.

How bout a regular ole deck of bicycle cards? You carry too many gimmicks,surely you can do some sleights??? Maybe carry a gaff card or 2

Cards are great but I like alot of variety to magic. I was just trying to suggest some different mediums to work with. I think that alot of people think of cards when they see a magician in the room. I actually prefer to use other mediums when working a room. In terms of gimmicks, I think the ones I listed are pretty hassle free(always ready to go). I guess as long as people are freaking out it shouldn't matter what you are using.

a good trick is Rope thru neck. you tie an ordinary rop around your necka and pull the ends and the goes through your neck and you end up unharmed.





this trick can be done with any rope. no gimmicks involved. although it is a very dangerous trick if not done right. do this at your own risk. You can find this and many other tricks you can do at clubs in the great book, the encyclapedia of magic by Nicholas Einhorn.

Card Warp has always gotten me great reactions in bars/pubs, another is Back in Time by Jay Sankey.

SPONGE BALLS!!!

I suggest you get the Tarbell Course in Magic, all 8 of them which will get you well rounded in magic. This alone could produce a professional magician. I also recommend Maximum Entertainment by Ken Weber, and all of Derren Brown's books. You could also pick up Born to Perform Card Magic with Oz Pearlman to learn the basics in card magic, and most of them are off the Cuff.

The M5 and an Xflip coin. MANY tricks can be done with this and people will seriously freak out. I have had people believe I was into the occult. It was funny to see how their mind tries to explain the impossible.

Try a chop cup routine. Not cups and balls - just a chop cup.

Final loads wise, sky's the limit. Have fun.
