For my 1000th post, I wanted to write something meaningful, something lasting. I hope you all find something to relate to in this, my humble rant called, I Am A Magician.
I am a magician. I practice the art of illusion, the ability to make people see the seemingly impossible, right before their very eyes. I make wonders happen in the palm of their hands. I can make them believe that cards can rise of their own accord, flip over in the middle of the pack. I can show them something they see every day, and change it into something else. Things under my control vanish, float, appear, rearrange, burn and restore, multiply, increase, shrink, and do all kinds of unbelievable miracles. I am a magician.
I am an artist. I use stories to make my effects believable, music to enhance, and colorful props and clothing to bring life to my miracles. I put as much hard work into my art as any sculptor or painter, and the same passion as a musician. I bring my art to my audience; my gallery is the street, a ballroom, a dining hall, restaurant, living room, barroom, or backyard. My canvas are the tools of my trade; a deck of cards, a coin, cups and balls, sponge balls, keys, pens, forks. I take these things and I paint miraculous wonders. I am an artist.
I am a professional. I take what I do very seriously. I study hard so I can improve. I work hard for my clients so they will treat others like me with the respect they deserve. I am fair in my rates, basing any fees I charge on my level of experience. I never take on more than I can handle, and I make every client feel as though they are the most important one I’ve ever had. I look forward to each performance, and reflect afterwards. I seek out those like me for advice, and give helpful advice when asked. I am a professional.
I am an entertainer. I love making people laugh and smile. I enjoy watching their faces light up as I weave a spell of magic in front of them. I marvel at their curiosity as I lead them through my wonders, and delight when they ask for more. My payment is the applause of the crowd, and the cries of “More!â€
