WEll first off "R" isnt a word.

And what do you consider "real."

IF you mean they use real ropes and chains... then yes for the most part.

Dont get this set for cuffs escapes...

Just use some common sense as well.

Keep in mind escapes arent for every one. They are costly, can be dangerous, and it can be very hard to keep the people entertained with them.

Which dvd? there are 3 that teach and one informational.

There is good information in them all.

And in the art of escapes you cant just do the escapes alone. Thats just boring. Just like in MAgic, presentation is large part. But I persoanlly think its even bigger in escapes. Cards can be slightly entertaining on their own, same with levitation, or sponge balls....

But escapes, just escaping from a Strait jacket, can be very very boring.
Same with a chest- locked inside, you cant easily entertain while locked in it. So you have to build it up, make it impossible, and make it entertaining.

A good book that covers things like this is Steve Santini's- Everything you Ever Wanted to Know About Entertaining with Escapes (but no one would tell you).

Great book. Not easy to come by though.

???????????????????????????

My condolences, David. I've found audiences to be quite entertained by my escapes. But then, I learned early on that both escapes and mentalism have to be performed with a different mindset than traditional magic.
If I had presented escapes the way my friends in the SAM and IBM suggested I present them, they WOULD have been boring as 'shucky-darn' to lay people.

But, yes, the correct presentation is essential for any form of mystery entertainment (and entertainment in general).

The thing to remember in both escapes and mentalism is to maintain the mindset that what you are doing is REAL (even if it isn't).

No need for condolences. I have no problem entertianing the people.
One just shouldnt use the same 'mind set' they use in magic, that they use in escapes.

I am not saying they arent entertained by my escapes. I have never let an audience down with my performance.
BUt I have seen others performances, that just left the audience "dry."

Like you said, a different mind set must be used.
