Yes you can. But, I would go with scotch and soda, or both. Dime and Penny can be examined...but not nearly as much as scotch and soda. Plus, Dime and Penny is not crafted as well as scotch and soda and it could break easily.

Whenever I carry Scotch & Soda, I actually carry dime & penny as well. Well, actually I carry another version of S&S as well. This trick is always a hit, and when they want me to do it again, but for a friend, I hate saying "I'm sorry... I can't do it again". It's not because they won't know, but because, well, Reset.

Instead I can say "Sure... Let's do with this dime and penny"

Good idea. I just have to "use the restroom" for the reset of scotch and soda.

I said, nope, just an ordinary penny... here examine it!

He came back with, "Just an ordinary penny... so you wouldn't mind then if I swapped you this penny for one in my pocket?"

Dang!! Now, that's a smart friend! I'm glad I've never been asked that, because I wouldn't have known what to say either. One thing I prefer to do is refrain from referring to anything that I use as ordinary, whether it is or not. That at least helps to not open the door for questions like that one. I like for everything, including myself, to have a sort of implied 'magical aura', if that makes any sense. I guess that's just part of my style. If someone says something like, "That's not an ordinary coin", I just give a nice little grin, hold out my hand and as they give it back I say, "It's magic." Then I move on to the next effect.
I'm also curious as to how others would deal with that question without giving away that fact that something is definitely up with the coin. I sure can't think of anything at the moment!

YES!! It has sentimental value for some reason or other. That's a great idea, flogger.... probably why you posted it.

If you say the penny has sentimental value that will probably convince your friend even more that it's not a regular penny, since you don't want to let go of it. You could tell him to give you the penny back for a second and switch it with a normal penny and give that one to him to keep.

when i did dime and penny for some friends they asked if i could do it with their dime so i just did a slight of hand and made it jump to my pocket. they were flored they wanted me to do a opeing trick for their next concert.

The only reason I don't like dime and penny is because the penny's color gets all weird after a while. Mine got discolored after about 1 week.

That same thing happened with my penny, within the first couple days I had it. It looked real dark, so i tried washing it off with water but it just made it worse. Now my penny has a reddish tint to it.

THe effect is the same just Dime and Penny is not built as well
